It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Harvest Time

The Staples commercial mentions that back to school is the most wonderful time of the year for parents.

As wonderful as summer break is (and also always feels to short), getting the kids back to school helps the kids and adults get back to a routine. This is a time to start thinking ahead and planning out the rest of the year, especially restocking your wine cellar.

This is also the most wonderful time of the year for grape growers and winemakers - harvest time.

Over the summer, I visited a winery in Niagara on the Lake and had the opportunity to tour the vineyards and the winery itself (and of course sample a few wines). Being in between the vines and seeing the growth of the grape bunches puts into perspective the love and care that goes into making a bottle of wine, from start to finish.

We were told that much of the picking of the grapes is done by machines at this particular winery (Rief Estates), but they have a select few varietals that are still hand picked (usually the old vines that produce the best quality grapes).
